Hello,
as you may have noticed, this site's layout has changed around. The old layout was very nice looking, but it was a bit irritating to maintain and work on. This will now be my de-facto personal website layout for the forseeable future, and all blog posts will be written here. Thank you for reading.
I recently bought a Panasonic HVX200, and the workload of having solid state media is MUCH better than having to wait an hour for a tape to be saved. (then there are tape dropouts, dirty heads, etc... this isn't that irritating but it IS annoying when it's footage I care about)
The only issue is the fact that audio is stored separately from videos in .mxf files, and they are huge. So, I created a tool to merge both the audio and the video together. Go check it out here.
remarks: Panasonic decided to leave each respective audio channel in the AUDIO folder. For example, let's take a file from VIDEO. "00004NH.MXF": there should be a 00004NH(00).MXF (L) file, and a 00004NH(01).MXF (R) file. The two trailing digits in the filename correspond to the channel.
Panasonic also decided to store a third and fourth channel and made it silence. I don't know why they did this, as the audio format they used was PCMle16. This balloons the file usage on the P2 card. Even if an audio file is silent, it will still take up as much storage as a file that isn't silent.
